The Hallmark Condominium is a premier
property in Alexandria, VA. And thanks to Precision Boilers,
it has a premier water heating system.
The Hallmark is a 220-unit luxury
high rise structure. Facility managers began looking for ways
to reduce the cost of supplying hot water to the building's
residents at a more reasonable cost. Their solution: A
Thermogenetic Hot Water Storage System from Precision Boilers.
The key to thermal storage is to be
able to put the energy into the system when it is cost effective,
maintain high temperature water storage, and extract hot water as
needed. The ability to control the process without
interruption is what makes it work. Thermal storage allows The
Hallmark to take advantage of Virginia Power's off-peak rates to
energize the system (from 1-5pm and from 10 to 6am), and provide hot
water at 1100 gallons per hour continuously. By energizing the
system during off-peak hours, the savings were dramatic over the
previous electric water heaters in use.
In fact, the system began providing
savings immediately, and calculations showed that it paid for itself
in less than two years. The system was virtually unnoticed by
residents. A wooden building that matched an existing
poolhouse was constructed to house the system. And no one was
ever lacking in hot water.
